Painting in Shaughnessy ~ Careful Painting At Work

Interior Painting in Shaughnessy, Vancouver

Interior Painting in Shaughnessy, Vancouver. Careful Painting is painting the interior of this large Shaughnessy home. We are using Benjamin Moore’s excellent ‘Aura’ paints on the walls, ceilings & trim.

Benjamin Moore set to phase out some of its popular & older lines of paint.

Benjamin Moore set to discontinue some of its more popular & older lines of paint. While it is a shame in some ways to see some old favourites go, it makes sense that Benjamin Moore would look to reduce the number of lines of paint on its shelves.  For home owners and Vancouver painters, this will be a big change for the Vancouver painting industry.

Let’s take a look at interior latex paints. By my count there are currently 14 lines of latex interior paint currently available from Benjamin Moore – you can currently buy ‘eggshell’ in ten lines of alone.

What’s going:

  • Collection – has been a very popular and successful line
  • Eco Spec – replaced by Ultra Spec 500
  • Super Spec –also replaced by Ultra Spec 500
  • Moorstyle – still available in some stores, but already discontinued
  • Moore’s Ceiling Paint – recently discontinued
  • All Oils & Alkyds – not for sure, but word on the street is that these will be gone before too long.  This is inevitable, but for certain applications, oils & alkyds will be definitely be missed.
  • Natura – still available, but the word on the street is that this Zero VOC paint will be gone too.  (if this is true, it will be unfortunate.  It is their best quality Zero VOC paint)
  • Concepts – this a low grade paint, which is the equivalent of the Canadian Tire exclusive Benjamin Moore paint ‘Origins’ -no great loss here!

What’s going, but will hopefully be reformulated in Gennex:

  • Impervex High Gloss
  • Kitchen & Bath
  • Porch & Floor – the urethane (oil) version of this is already gone

What’s here to stay (for now…)

  • Aura – Benjamin Moore’s premium line of paint –excellent paint!
  • Regal Select – basically a Gennex version of ‘Collection’
  • Ben – good, but basically ‘poor man’s’ Aura
  • Ultra Spec 500 – lower grade or ‘contractor’ paint.  This zero VOC paint replaces Eco Spec, and Super Spec
  • Aura Bath & Spa – specifically formulated matte finish for bathrooms and other high moisture/humidity areas
  • Waterbourne Ceiling Paint – Ultra Flat, Low VOC.  Great stuff.

While nothing is publicly confirmed, it won’t be a surprise if any of this happens.  Careful Painting has been painting in Vancouver since 1995, and we have used all of the above paints many times.  We feel that Benjamin Moore is doing the right thing moving forward, but some of these old favourites will definitely be missed.

Interior Painting in Kitsilano ~ painting a suite prior to rental

Kitsilano Rental Suite Painting

Careful Painting just painted the inside of this ground floor condo in Kitsilano. The owner was between tenants, and she wanted to re-paint the suite to make it fresh and clean before renting it out. She was very pleased with the results.

Benjamin Moore Factory in New Jersey badly damaged by Super Storm Sandy

News has come down that Benjamin Moore’s main paint manufacturing facility for North America has been badly damaged by Hurricane Sandy.  Apparently, paint manufacturing has come to a virtual stop.  This will no doubt affect the supply of Benjamin Moore Paints throughout North America and to Western Canada.  Hopefully inventory in the Aldergrove BC facility is high enough to keep the paint flowing here in BC while the Newark New Jersey factory is repaired and brought back on line.  All my best to those working to repair the Benjamin Moore factory.

Finally, while we’re on the topic of Hurricane Sandy, my thoughts go out to the people in the Northeastern U.S. experiencing hardship during the aftermath of the storm.

Another Happy Careful Painting Customer

Lori C ~ Point Grey

“I hired Careful Painting to paint by back deck, after collecting a few other estimates.  I went with Derek because, although his pricing was not the lowest in the lot, I had a sense that I could trust him to deliver.  And, my instincts were right. Derek’s crew showed up when they said they would and completed the project on time and on budget.  The crew was friendly and professional and provided me with a refreshed and well-painted deck.  I am a discriminating customer and highly recommend their services.”

“Selecting a quality contractor is critical, and after a lengthy period of research, I chose to contact Careful Painting for an estimate. Derek exceeded all my expectations, with honesty, trust, reliability, and value making this project an enjoyable experience.

Derek listened to my preferences, and offered appropriate advice to ensure the best outcome. His crew consistently arrived on time, worked hard and delivered quality results with minimal impact.

I gladly recommend Careful Painting to any needing this service.”

David Wilson ~ Kitsilano

“Derek and his crew painted my duplex last summer. The duplex is a tall structure and thus required careful ladder placement, especially on the sides due to proximity with the neighbours’ houses. Although challenged by the wet spring weather, the crew were extremely competent with both preparation and painting, completing the job within the budget. I have no hesitation recommending Careful Painting.”

Susan O’Reilly MD ~ West Point Grey

Derek’s team at Careful Painting have painted the entire outside (Benjamin Moore paints) and inside (Farrow and Ball) of my traditional cedar shake house in West Point Grey. They have also taken care of some repairs and refreshment of walls or wood trim from time to time. Derek has been very professional, courteous and timely in all his dealings. His team have lived up to the name of being very careful professionals who did an excellent job and cleaned up thoroughly. They have provided high quality painting in a house full of complicated ceiling angles, wood trim and window muntins. As I work fulI time, I particularly appreciated leaving the entire job to them and knowing they could get it done under Derek’s supervision (and without mine!).
